Do you accept 16-year-olds at Savage Performing Arts Academy?
Yes, we do welcome dedicated 16–17-year-olds onto our Professional Performer Preparation course.
Savage is a private, non‑accredited training academy, which means:
-
We don’t offer a formal qualification like a BTEC, A‑Level or degree
-
Instead, we focus on intensive, practical performance training and real‑world industry preparation
Because the government requires young people to stay in education or training until they are 18, if you join us at 16 or 17 you’ll need to:
-
Be enrolled in another recognised qualification alongside Savage
(for example: a sixth form or college course, apprenticeship, or approved online study)
Savage then becomes your specialist performance training, running alongside your main qualification – similar to an elite sports academy model.
There is no external grant or government funding available for Savage, so fees are paid privately by the student or family. In return, you’ll receive significantly more practical training hours and focused performer preparation than a typical classroom‑based course.
If you’re 16–17 and considering Savage, we’re very happy to chat with you and your parent(s)/carer(s) to make sure your education and training are set up correctly and feel right for you.

Do students sit written exams at Savage Performing Arts Academy?
No. When you join our dance and musical theatre course you won’t sit any written exams. You don’t need an exam/piece of paper to be successful in performing arts industry. No one is going to ask for your qualifications in audition, they want to see how well you present yourself and if you fit the part they’re looking to fill.
However, if you are taking one of our teacher training courses, you will be asked to sit one written exam which is done online.

The benefits of a non qualification route
For students and parents, this means Savage is best viewed as
-
A professional performer preparation academy, not a traditional college
-
Ideal for young people who want more practical hours, industry‑focused training and personal support, rather than a paper‑heavy qualification route
-

How old do I have to be to take a teacher training exam?
You can start your teacher training from 16 years old. However, you must be 18 before you can take your official qualification exam.

Are there additional fees above the yearly tuition fee for the dance and musical theatre course?
Yes. There’s a £250 admin and exclusive branded uniform fee to be paid when your application’s successful.
What isn’t included in the yearly tuition fee for the dance and musical theatre course?
Any fees associated with performances, auditions, costumes and travel will be the student’s responsibility.
What uniform will I need if I’m accepted to become a student at Savage Performing Arts Academy?
You’ll receive a uniform list that you’ll need for your classes after application is successful. You can buy uniform through Savage or a supplier of your choice.
